A Level Clinic with Wanda Marshall: The Speaking Exam

21.11.24.

The ALL London Committee always has  a little ‘self help’ group chat following the planned agenda of its meetings, and in our October meeting, we talked at length about our  A level issues.  Hence our decision to give a platform for others to listen and share ideas in a series of  informal webinars.

Here is a report of our first webinar, led by committee member Wanda Marshall.  Vielen Dank, Wanda!

The next one will be led by Sharon Mangion on Tuesday 10th December 2024 starting at 7 pm.  Please follow this link to register.

An appeal

ALL London organises webinars for the MFL community and this webinar is open to all MFL teachers. We hope that you will like us and want to join The Association for Language Learning! We are all volunteers, we pay  Membership fees to this charity, and we urge others to join in order to support a body which is independent of government and can give a voice to its members.  Thank you.

The chat

Some questions from the chat which were discussed:

  • How should we approach the IRP in trial exams? We do an IRP on the film study in the mock (using 2 articles about the film) Edexcel |
  • How can we prevent students overusing AI to prepare their speaking introductions? I gave my class a mini AI lesson for how to training themselves to ask questions with chatGPT. I said to them, sorry I can’t help you much in this part of assessment but Mr ChatGPT can assist you 100%, even better than me to challenge your thinking. | I like the idea of a mini AI lesson as I think this has to be part of our future.
  • Can you repeat or re-phrase questions?

Thanks!
