Language World 2009

Helen Myers, 18.04.09.

It was great to see so many 'old friends' at this year's Language World and to make new ones.

Pauline Swanton presided over a programme which was packed with many sessions (52 over the 2 days) lead by a wide range of people from all sectors  including practitioners, trainers, publishers, managers and key decision makers.  The language conference dinner offered a good chance to socialise, eat and drink.

An 'official photographer' was there to capture the atmosphere, but while waiting for these to be available, the wonderful Joe Dale has done an attractive  photo compilation which is available on Flickr Here

Here's a picture of Joe and looking on is Jocelyn Wyburn from Links into Languages and  Manchester University  who generously gave Helen a 30 minute 1:1 Italian lesson and shared some fascinating stories about her assistantship in Sicily.  (She was the first one to be placed there following a considerable amount of pressure!!)

Another picture includes our own, our very own London committee member, Jen Sutton, pictured here in a rather fetching pink top, talking with Shirley and Liz (NSC RSAs .. and Shirley is also chair of the Spanish Committee)..... and we can spot Steve from Sanako (an ALL corporate member) talking with Vicky Wright (ALL Management Board member) from Southampton.

Joe  has blogged about his own experience here under 16th April entry which includes references to several sessions.

Thanks so much Joe!

Joe has commented that it would  be nice to share information about the sessions.    I hope to collect comments / links to sessions which we attended there.  Please feel free to email Helen and she will upload onto this page.  She'll upload hers next weekend.  (Busy Easter!!)

Here is his message to those who attended:

Dear All, Apologies for the impersonal nature of this group email (it's just taken me 35 minutes to type in all the addresses!). My first plan was to email you a copy of my presentation from my talk at Language World last Friday but just after I uploaded it I realised that I had created it in Pages (I'm a mac!) and so probably the majority of you wouldn't have been to open it. Instead, I've put the little movies into my public folder which you can access from here:

I've not uploaded the Animated Tales stuff because of possible copyright infringements. If you have questions about the Michel Thomas Method, my ĦEs posible! and C'est possible! 'Michel Thomas for Schools' courses then please feel free to get in touch: I always reply! Best wishes, Paul howard Head of MFL at Merchant Taylors' Boys' School, Crosby Author of ĦEs posible! and C'est possible!
