ALL London was delighted to be able to host the annual ‘Show and Tell’ which took place in the last slot of the ‘Language Show London’ on Saturday 14th October 2017 after a day packed with superb speakers and visits to exhibition stands in the elegant Grade II listed building, the British Design Centre (formerly the Royal Agricultural Hall). 18 brave souls volunteered to share their ideas. Many thanks to Joe Dale for turning his hand to tech support, and apologies that the Internet connection was flaky meaning that speakers could not always illustrate their idea. [Note for future shows: suggest a screen capture on a USB stick if people know in advance they can contribute.]
Immediately following the session, about 60 of us repaired to the café space for our ‘after-show’ get-together. Many thanks to Alex Marsden who is part of the Vocab Express team within Harper Collins, and who generously arranged to supply free drinks and nibbles at our ‘after-party’, as well as a prize for the quiz; to Patrick Cheek of Upper Street Events, who arranged the availability of the space where we could gather (- match day at Arsenal made it difficult to find a big enough function room at a pub) – and to Richard Margerison who supplied an attractive, challenging quiz with an international flavour. Congratulations to the winning team! Team member Richard Specterman attributed their success to a broad age range (including his delightful son, aged 5) which put them in a strong position to answer the film round!
